Buzzer beaters are awesome. Hitting a buzzer beater to win the game on your rival’s home court? That’s even more awesome.
That’s exactly what Green Bay 2020 signee Jacob Jones did on Friday night to propel his Jeffersonville (IN) High School team to a 49-46 victory over rival Floyd Central.
With the game tied at 46 with 5.4 seconds left, Jones inbounded the ball to teammate Darin Starks who gave it right back to Jones. He took three dribbles before launching a fadeaway three-pointer with 2.2 seconds left directly in front of the Floyd Central student section, banking it in as time expired sending the Jeffersonville crowd into a frenzy.
“In the back of my head, I knew I was going to shoot it,” Jones said, via the News and Tribune. “Wasn’t sure if I was going to make it, but thank God I got lucky and I hit it.”
“I can’t think of a word to describe it. A lot of emotions running through me.”
The 5’10” point guard scored 18 of Jeffersonville’s 49 points in the victory and is averaging 13.2 points per game this season helping his team to an 11-4 record including a perfect 3-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference. He came into Friday night’s game shooting 41% on three point attempts and averaging 4.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game as well.
He followed up his 18-point performance with a 16-point outing in a 68-50 victory over Providence on Saturday night.
Jones is part of a 5-person 2020 Green Bay recruiting class that includes local product Ryan Claflin from Southern Door High School as well as junior college transfers Leon Ayers, Paris Taylor, and Blayton Williams.
