The Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball season ended a little over two weeks ago but it’s never too early to start looking towards next season.
The 2018/2019 non-conference schedule is starting to take shape after The Gazelle Group announced last month that Green Bay will be one of eight teams participating in the 2018 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. The Phoenix will play a total of four games as part of the tournament.
Connecticut, Iowa, Oregon, and Syracuse headline the 24th annual event this season. Exact matchups and dates will be announced later this year but Green Bay will face two of those four teams on the road next season. Those four major teams will matchup in the “semifinals” of the tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Green Bay, meanwhile, will play its other two games as part of the event on November 16th and 17th in Cheney, Washington at Reece Court, the home of the Eastern Washington Eagles. The Phoenix will play against two of the following three schools while out west: Morehead State, Eastern Washington, and UMKC.
It will be the 7th straight year that Green Bay has participated in an early season showcase type event. The Phoenix took part in the Hoops in the Heartland event this past season playing games against Mississippi State, Florida A&M, Stetson, and Division III Lakeland College. Other recent showcase events Green Bay has participated in include the 2016 Bill Frack Tournament at Bowling Green, the 2015 NIT Season Tipoff, 2014 Gulf Coast Showcase, and 2013 Great Alaska Shootout.
In addition to the four games as part of the 2K Classic, other likely games on Green Bay’s 2018/2019 nonconference schedule include return games at home against Indiana State and Northern Illinois.
